Volunteer Counselling

Even before Katrina, of course, the Big Easy had a culture like no place else in America. New Orleans is the home of Mardi Gras and Louie Armstrong. The food is legendary, and the music amazing; in parts of the city, great jazz is being played on almost every corner. There’s a lot of heart here; people are open, funny, warm, and expressive. And volunteers for the Katrina recovery effort, whether from out-of-state or across the world, are made to feel welcome. But the sad truth is, years after Katrina struck, New Orleans is still in deep trouble. And, the most vulnerable segments of the population are suffering: low income children, the elderly, the homeless and jobless, and the mentally ill.

Despite a phenomenal outpouring of support from around the world, short and long term volunteers are still needed to aid in the post-Katrina recovery.
