With its fascinating combination of wooden and glass architecture it is easy to see why Aquensis, la cité des eaux, is described as a cathedral of well-being. Apart from the spa's visually appealing interior it also offers 3,000 square meters of undiluted rejuvenation in the form of a big swimming pool, sauna and hydromassage apparatus. There are also jacuzzis on the deck with a splendid view of the mountains, various beauty treatments and even a pool with subaqueous music. La cité des eaux can be translated from French as the town of water.
Aquensis Spa Situated at the foot of the Pyrénées Mountain Range
The Aquensis Spa opened its doors as the first health resort in the Haute-Pyrénées department of France. The reputation of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and its thermal springs stretches back many decades when it was known as the l'Athènes des Pyrénées and welcomed prestigious guests such as Napoleon, Henry Russell and George Sand.
The most accessible airport from the town is Pau Uzein airport which is located about 80 kilometers from the spa. Alternatively, Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées airport can be used which is only about 25 kilometers away but it is not as accessible as Pau as it flies less routes. For visitors who wish to combine ski and spa activities, it is worth knowing that La Mongie Ski Resort and Pic du Midi de Bigorre are a mere 20 kilometers from the spa.
